i'm someone who enjoys watching people sweat than i myself play the sport. not that i don't enjoy playing sports nor i am bad at it. i just prefer to watch then to do it.
i fell in love with tennis. it was approximately 4 years ago. at first, i fell in love with, i can vividly remember, one chilean player. marcelo rios. his captivating eyes enchanted me. i was hypnotise by him. he created such presence in the court. especially, the concentration in his eyes. i not only fell in love with the sport itself but i found that i fell in love with marcelo rios, the man himself.
then, years goes by. everything seems like a blurry image to me. after marcelo rios, it was the swede, magnus norman during the french open 2000. later, it was the spaniard, juan carlos ferrero. followed closely by, compatriot, alex corretja.
in between, juan carlos ferrero and alex corretja, i did happen to fall for a french, sebastien grosjean. my feelings for him has not fade and i sincerely hope, it will not ever.
juan carlos ferrero was more of a role model to me. he's young yet he has achieved so much. the fact that he helped his country win last year's davis cup really made me realise the real meaning of patriotism.
presently, it's goran ivanisevic, the croat who won wimbledon open 2001. he's indeed, sexy, gorgeous and charming, to me. actually, he's more than that. when i found out the things that he had gone through to get this far, i was shocked. it was really heart-wrenching reading to his past. how he battle his downfall, his father's heart problem, his sister's illness and how he manage to scrap some money from the tournaments that he played just to play for theis medical bills. to me, this is a real-life cinderella story but cinderella is a he.
i may sound like a girl who enjoys watching tennis to look at male tennis players battling it out on the court, sweating like a pig yet looking awfully sexy. yes, i must admit that's partly the reason why i started watching tennis.
people have told me that i watch tennis because of the handsome male players. you can't escape from the fact. of course, there's good-looking tennis players out there on the court but i'm actually killing 2 birds with 1 stone. watching a game of tennis and drooling at the sight of men sweating like mad.
for the last 4 years, i've learned slowly, just by watching each and every tennis matches, including those that i've taped how the game is being played. i don't pretend to like the game just to impress people by saying that i enjoy tennis but actually, i just want to watch the players.
after days of pondering, i just realised my passion for tennis. why waste time watching people play when you yourself can get up and have a great time, playing the game?
my dad, he plays tennis weekly, asked me just now, whether i was serious about tennis. i said, yes, of course but told him i'll pursue it after this year, anytime soon, i hope. he's willing to coach me. am i willing to play?
maybe, once i have take up tennis, i'll turn pro. who knows? next time you'll hear from me is during french open 2006! 5 years down the road, turned pro, sinly rich. you guys, wanting my autograph.
i didn't write this because wimbledon open 2001 just ended and the hype now is on tennis, wimbledon open 2001 and goran ivanisevic.
